What is the American Airlines baggage policy?

Baggage policy for carry-on bags-

  • The airline carry-on bags policy suggests passengers can carry one personal item and one carry-on bag.

  • Your item, like a handbag or a purse, should fit under the seat in front of you, and the bag dimensions should not overextend by 18 x 14 x 8 inches. These items don't count as your item or carry-on bag:

  • Children's Diaper bags (allowed 1 per child)

  • A small, soft-sided cooler of breast milk

  • Child safety seats

  • Child strollers

  • Breast pump

  • Medical or mobility devices

Carry on requirements-

  • The carry-on bag measurements should not exceed 22 x 14 x 9 inches, including handles and wheels.

  • It should fit in the sizer at the airport.

  • If your bag doesn't fit the overhead bin, you must put it in the checked bags. The additional carry-on restrictions may apply in different airports or flights. In case this happens, label your carry-on the same way you do check bags.

  • The soft-sided garment bags up to 51 inches are allowed as a carry-on items.

  • In case you are transporting Musical instruments, they are also considered a carry-on item and should fit in the overhead bin of your seat or under the seat in front of you.

Checked baggage policies-

  • All baggage fees are non-refundable and applied per person at each check-in point, even if you had upgraded or bought free checked bags travel class. 

  • If you have been unfairly charged, you can connect with an American representative for help or file a refund claim within 45 days.

  • Passengers are allowed to check up to 10 bags on the airline flight if their trip is Domestic, Transatlantic, or Transpacific.

  • Travelers can Check up to 5 bags on American-operated flights if they're traveling to Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, South America, and Brazil.

  • Tourists going to Cuba can take two checked bags with a maximum weight of 32 kg per bag. They can take one carry-on bag and one personal item with them. There are no exceptions.

Oversize baggage policies-
